There are a range of scholarship opportunities available to the students of JABSOM funded through the generosity of various donors.
Per Federal regulations, a student’s financial aid (grants and loans) and scholarships/resources cannot exceed the Cost of Attendance. Aid eligibility will be recalculated with each scholarship a student receives.
Scholarships for new incoming students will be offered by the Admissions Office and can range up to 4-years of full tuition + living stipend.
The only JABSOM-administered scholarship program that students need to apply for prior to admission is the Kauaʻi Medical Training Track program.
All first-year students will have an exclusive opportunity to apply for JABSOM scholarships in July/August after they start the program. Application information will be released to students during Orientation. Scholarships in this round typically range from $1,000-$5,000 and will be awarded to students in September of their first year, for immediate use.
Starting in November of each year, current JABSOM students will be given the chance to apply for scholarships for use during the following academic year. Scholarship award amounts can typically range from $1,000 - $5,000.
A single common application is used, and JABSOM will match students to appropriate scholarships. The application season will typically end in February.
Students are encouraged to search for scholarship opportunities in their local community. Scholarships hosted by external organizations that reach out to JABSOM will be listed on our Scholarships Sheet.
For scholarship agencies sending a check:
Note: Please include the student's name and student ID number or username (please ask the student or contact us at medfas@hawaii.edu for that information).
Checks received by the Manoa Financial Aid Office will be processed and funds paid to the student's UH account. Excess funds will be refunded after tuition/fee amounts are paid each semester.
Several programs offer students full tuition scholarship payments in return for a commitment of service after their medical residency. These programs are a great way for students to avoid loan debt, as their costs (including living expenses in some cases) are provided upfront by the sponsoring agency. Students may contact the programs directly, or for general information, we can help answer questions: medfas@hawaii.edu.
