Additional Expenses

The expenses listed below are factored into the student budget allocations and students must use existing financial aid/own resources to pay these expenses.

  • Optional study tools - cost varies, but students report spending over $600 for such subscriptions
  • Smart Phone & Required Software

  • USMLE Step 1 - $670 (as of 2024)

  • Smart Phone & Required Software

  • USMLE Step 2 Exam - $670 (as of 2024). This is taken after your third-year rotations/beginning of 4th year

  • Parking at hospitals during rotations

  • Neighbor island rotations
  • Optional Away Rotations - $2,000 - $5,000/each

  • Hospital Parking

  • Residency Applications ($400 - $3,000)

  • Matching/Graduation Expenses/Moving Costs

Additional financial aid loans may be available for:

  • A one-time computer purchase

    • Must be purchased during the academic year

    • Incoming first-year students can only request this loan increase for computer purchases made on/after the first day of Orientation.

  • Health Insurance

  • Away Rotations

  • Residency Applications and Interview Travel Expenses

  • Childcare Costs

  • Emergency Expenses
